The leading edge of a cooler, Canadian airmass was about to descend upon the Capital Region early this morning. The cold front which marks the leading edge of this airmass was over the immediate area this morning. Some clouds and widely scattered showers and sprinkles were accompanying this system. The clouds should sweep south and east of the area by this afternoon, allowing for skies to clear, and a brisk northwest breeze to pick up. The airmass will feel a tad bit on the chilly side, as temperatures struggle to get to 70 degrees.
High pressure will be building into the region tonight, and a clear, calm, and chilly night is in store. Some frost and freezing conditions are expected across portions of the Adirondacks and Lake George Region, where temperatures may start out below freezing on Friday morning. As for the Capital Region and surrounding vicinity, temperatures are expected to plummet to near 40 degrees.
The strong high pressure area remains in control of the region’s weather, for the most part, through the coming weekend and into the start of the new work week. A weak, moisture deprived, cold front looks to make a run at the region late Saturday night into early Sunday morning, but that frontal system looks to behave much like the front that is passing through our region this morning. Hence, no major fanfare is expected with the front’s passage.
Temperatures will spend the majority of their time below normal, as will precipitation amounts, through the forecast period. The next chance for any precipitation doesn’t look to come until midweek next week, as a warm front approaches the region, thus increasing the threat for some showers.
