The last work week in August kicked off with another red carpet, as stars of the small screen gathered for the 66th Annual Primetime Emmy Awards. This year’s red carpet saw various shades of blue and coral in a variety of different silhouettes. Dawning dresses in shades of pink were Sarah Hyland, Lena Dunham, Heidi Klum and Minnie Driver, while Viola Davis, Michelle Dockery, Mayim Bialik and Julia Roberts were among those to rock the blue. Red and white also featured prominently on this year’s batch of Emmy attendees. Following are highlights of the red carpet.
The 'Breaking Bad' star ditched her frumpy housewife style from the show and wowed in a simple and sophisticated Jenny Packham gown. With gold touches on the clutch and shoes that complement the gold tones in her hair, Anna managed to look sleek and chic on the red carpet. Her cascading hair kept the look light.
A red carpet veteran, Lucy Liu chose a billowy Zac Posen gown in an off white color. The see through panels add a sophisticated sexiness to the gown, while keeping the cutouts appropriate for such a formal occasion. Lucy also kept her hair down and her makeup simple. She chose to keep the jewelry at a minimum and let the neckline of the dress steal the show.
Returning to television this fall in 'How to Get Away With Murder,' Viola Davis turned up at the Emmys in a periwinkle Escada gown. The silhouette of the dress perfectly complements her body, and the top of the dress is sparkly enough that she doesn't need a ton of accessories. The pop of red in the clutch and the earrings add a sense of whimsy to this outfit.
'Mad Men's' Teyonah Parris may not be a household name on the red carpet, but this lime and sherbet Christian Siriano gown certainly got her noticed this year. Playing with color and a form-fitting bodice, this dress is young and fun while still being dressy and appropriate for a black tie event. She too kept the styling simple so as not to overwhelm the look.
As a former model, Heidi Klum can get away with a lot, and sometimes, she makes some pretty interesting fashion choices. For this year's Emmy's she turned to her co-judge on 'Project Runway,' Zac Posen. The coral dress has a very flowy silhouette which serves as a contrast to the body con looks she is so famous for.
Sarah Hyland's Christian Siriano ensemble is on trend and age appropriate while still looking elegant. The halter cropped top shows one of this summer's most popular trends. Paired with a beautiful coral flared skirt, the look is the perfect blend of color and simplicity. Styled with a ballerina bun and a neutral smoky eye, this look is perfect for a young woman on the red carpet.
This 'Orange is the New Black' star also rocked Christian Siriano on the red carpet, and this look was also bold on the color. The mermaid gown is unadorned and simple, which is perfect for such a bold color. Paired with a diamond solitaire and simple stud earrings, this look manages to be bold and reserved at the same time.
Another former model, 'So You Think You Can Dance' host Cat Deeley looks good in almost everything. For this year's Emmys, she stunned in a feminine and romantic Burberry gown. Though a plunging neckline can look tacky if done incorrectly, Cat makes it look red carpet ready. Styled with a fun serpentine bracelet and a simple clutch, this look is a knockout.
Former 'Mean Girls' and current 'Masters of Sex' star Lizzy Caplan looked radiant in a Donna Karan Atelier gown. She too rocked the cutouts this year, but the high neckline and flared skirt make it a sexy detail in an otherwise tasteful dress. Embracing the red carpet style, Lizzy chose a chunky diamond bracelet and earrings to complement the gown.
Another woman who doesn't shy away from bold color, Kerry Washington hits it out of the park in this orange Prada dress. The high slit is balanced out by a peek-a-boo panel that sparkles and highlights the dress' piping. The hint of sparkle adds a bit of glamour to the dress without taking it into costume territory. Kerry also kept her hair down while rocking a dramatic smoky eye.
