July is shaping up to be a huge month in the life of Spider-Man. Throughout the “Superior Spider-Week” Marvel Comics has made big announcements surrounding their web headed star. First there is the new series, “The Superior Foes of Spider-Man” where a bunch of Spidey’s average villains head to the big time as the new Sinister Six. Then the deadly Carnage gets an upgrade in the “Superior Carnage” limited series. “Superior Spider-Man” writer Dan Slott has said that big changes to the character are coming in July that might be even more shocking than the events of “Amazing Spider-Man” #700.
With all this danger coming Spider-Man’s way what could Marvel do to make things worse for Spider-Man? How about teaming him with Marvel’s greatest heroes? In an April 5, 2013 announcement on Marvel.com, Marvel revealed the all new Spider-Man series, “Superior Spider-Man Team-Up.”
The new series will replace the current Spider-Man team-up title “Avenging Spider-Man,” and will be written by Chris Yost with art by David Lopez. How does working with heroes mean danger for Spider-Man? When you’re really Doctor Octopus locked in Spider-Man’s body you’re not too friendly with the good guys.
“In my heart when I say "Team-Up" for "Superior Spider-Man," I probably mean "Versus." In the latest "Avenging" issues, we've seen that he has a fairly contentious relationship with most of the heroes he's encountered. And with "Superior Spider-Man Team Up," that just gets bigger.” Yost said in an interview with ComicBookResources.com.
“’Superior Spider-Man Team-Up” #1 takes fans across the entire Marvel Universe and pits Superior Spider-Man against heroes and foes you wouldn’t necessarily think he’d rub shoulders with. More and more people in the Marvel Universe are starting to sense a change in Spider-Man, and being able to see Chris put Spidey in those situations is going to have my inbox full of team-up requests!” Marvel Senior Editor Stephen Wacker told Marvel.com.
