The Capital Region remains on the northeastern fringe of a broad ridge of high pressure that is centered over the middle of the nation. This is resulting in an unsettled, chaotic at times, weather pattern evolution across the area. The northwesterly flow over the region is helping to produce above normal temperatures, elevated, though not oppressive, humidity levels, and bouts of shower activity.
This trend should continue through tonight, and with the passage of a weakening cold front, humidity levels should slowly decrease. The region looks to be under the influence of surface high pressure by Thursday evening, which should last through the first part of the holiday weekend, bringing fair weather, with daytime high temperatures a couple degrees above normal.
Strong low pressure is forecast to organize over the upper Great Lakes by Saturday night, and this system’s warm front should begin to impact the region by late Saturday night into early Sunday morning. A return to mild temperatures, and moderately high humidity levels, looks to be in store by Sunday. Showers and perhaps a few thunderstorms may accompany the warm front on Sunday morning.
A more potent cold front approaches the region Sunday night, and this may touch off more shower and thunderstorm activity in time for Labor Day holiday festivities. The shortened work week should start under the influence of high pressure from Canada, along with seasonable temperatures.
