Golf Swing Grips
There are many different grips that you can use. Here are few of the most common types:
1. The Interlocking Grip – One of the most common is called the Interlock, or Interlocking grip. The index finger of the left hand and the little finger of the right hand combine and interlock. It is commonly used by those that have thick hands, or shorter hands. This grip is usually the best option for most people and will allow you to create proper leverage for maximum power. A good grip will keep the clubhead square at impact and keep the shaft from turning in your hands.
2. The Vardon or Overlapping Grip – The Vardon Overlap, sometimes called the Overlapping Grip, is the most common grip among players. This grip involves having the little finger of the right hand sit on top of the index finger of the left hand. This grip is used by most male golfers because it does require strong wrists and forearms. Try for a relaxed and comfortable feel. A tight grip will hinder your rhythm and release.
3. The Ten Finger or Baseball Grip – This is the least preferred grip. With this grip the index finger of the left hand and the little finger of the right hand do not overlap but do make contact with each other. This is usually the default grip for most beginners or golfers with weaker arm and wrist strength. You probably do not want to keep using this grip as the interlocking or overlapping will work better in most cases. Your grip is the foundation of your golf swing. Make sure your grip is comfortable.
The ideal stance is to have your weight equally balanced. Meditate and stay relaxed over the golf ball. A square stance means the feet are parallel to the target line. Slightly bend at the hips, while keeping your back straight with a slight flex in the knees. Let your arms hang naturally once you bend your hips, avoid extending your arms straight as there should be an angle between the arms and the shaft. A closed stance will encourage an inside-to-outside swing path, causing a draw. An open stance may encourage an outside-to-inside swing path by giving your arms and shoulders more freedom. The ball should be positioned in the center of the stance for the wedges and then move it up gradually towards the left foot as the clubs get longer. Position the ball a couple of inches inside the left heel for most shots.
Your golf swing plane is very essential. Your swing plane will quickly dictate how well and consistent you hit the ball. The perfect golf swing requires a strong knowledge of your current physical status, a clear head, and your current deficiencies. Positive golf affirmations will make you think positively and perform at your best on and off the course. Golf is a very mental game. You have to use the power of your mind to play your best.
