Love you drapes but agree they are getting boring. First step send them out for a good cleaning. Then re-hang them using rings, instead of the rod pocket, on a new rod with beautiful finials. Create a swag look by gathering them to the side with decorative hardware. Add a sheer behind the heavy drapes to create a lighter look.apartmenttherapy

Open up the decor by removing drapes. Replace with a fabric roman or balloon shade using a patterned or plain fabric. Roman shades can come in a soft fold version or a more tailored style.

Buy pieces that can be layered. Use a sheer or roman shade to begin with flanked by drapes on either side. Then add a swaged scarf at the top. Try hanging a curtain and instead of letting it fall, swag one corner over the rod to create a customized effect over a shade or sheer.

Hang a simple valance on a beautiful rod over a shade. Use table runners to create interesting window toppers. You can simply swag a runner over decorative corner hooks or clip on window rings to one long edge to hang on a pretty rod as if a valance.

Custom windows may be a bit more but could be worth it for the odd sized window or if your want something very special. Save money by measuring your windows yourself and ordering from a big box store or on-line. Make sure to measure the width at the bottom, top and middle of the window to make sure that they are square for ordering blinds or shade to be mounted inside. Measure the height on each side and use the side that is the longest.
