If you’re going to be a June bride and are looking forward to a tropical dream honeymoon, you’re going to want to look fabulous when you hit the beach in your bikini. (You’ll want to look great out of it, too, but that’s another story!) Even if you’re feeling pale, pudgy and out of shape after a long, cold winter of hiding your body under layers of sweaters, you can still get into bikini-ready shape in time to be a beach beauty on that honeymoon. Here are a few ways to get into shape, get a (fake) tan and pick the perfect bikini.

Start now and you should be able to drop at least ten pounds safely without starving, so look around for a weight loss program that you can stick to. Weight Watchers has been around more than 50 years and has a variety of plans, so you should be able to find one that suits your needs. Hey, this program worked wonders for Jennifer Hudson and Jessica Simpson!

Even if you don’t need to lose any weight, you probably could use a bit more firm muscle and less flab. Take a look at the gyms and fitness cubs in your area and find one that you’ll enjoy going to. Find a regime that suits your own level of fitness but allows you to work harder as you progress. Combine cardio work with weights or machines for body sculpting. Pay special attention to those abs and glutes. If you can afford it, hire a trainer who can design workouts especially aimed at giving you a super bikini body!

If your skin is a whiter shade of pale after having most of it covered up all winter, you don’t want to expose your complexion to the tropical sunshine yet. Invest in some good sunscreens for face and body with an SPF of at least 15, preferably more, and try to get a bit of color before the wedding. Don’t even think of going to a tanning parlor! Lying in those beds is just asking for wrinkles, and even worse, skin cancer. Get a little color gradually and fake the rest.

If you want to look like a tanned, tawny beach babe on your honeymoon, get a deluxe tanning treatment a day or so before the wedding. Don’t try to scrimp by getting the “car wash tan” at the mall—go to a salon that specializes in sunless tanning that will last for a week or more. London salons like Charles Worthington and Bliss can do a realistic, streak-free sunless tanning treatment for prices ranging from £25 to £125. Pick up a small size of the tanning potion to take along for covering spots that fade.

Another issue that you may have been able to ignore, or at least put on the back burner all winter, is waxing. If you want to look your best in a bikini, you’ll need to get a full body wax, because you can’t have bits of fuzz peeking out. In addition to the usual legs and nether regions, have your brows done, too. Urban Retreat in London charges £280 for a full body wax, but the results are worth it!

A muted nude color manicure is perfect for both the wedding and the honeymoon, since it doesn’t show chips so easily, but for hitting the beach, a wild coral or other bright shade will make your toes smashing in sandals. Or to really stand out on the sand, try a cool turquoise!

Not all bodies were created equal, and neither were all bikinis. The minimal string bikini with tiny bottom and triangle top looks great if you have perky breasts and the booty to match, not so great if you don’t. Most women look forward to trying on swimsuits about as much as they do a root canal, but if your want to find the most flattering suit for your body, you’ll need to try on a few possibilities.

If your wedding is several months away and you have time for some more extensive beauty fixes, consider cosmetic surgery. If you would like for your breasts to be larger, smaller or just more youthful, consult a certified plastic surgeon in your area. If you’ve been reluctant to do a bikini due to unsightly varicose veins on your legs or in the crotch area. Eddie Chaloner - a vascular surgeon at Radiance Vein Clinic, is the first surgeon in London to use the endovenous laser for vein treatment.

He says: “Fortunately, we now have much better techniques to treat varicose veins with minimal post operative discomfort and no scarring. The vast majority of patients get a great result which allows them to wear knee length skirts and shorts with confidence.”

If you and your new hubby are going to be spending most of your honeymoon on the beach, be sure to pack a few beauty and style essentials. You must have a pair of cool flip flops, like this metallic pair from Havaianas.

Just because you’re wearing a teeny bikini doesn’t mean that you don’t need to protect your face from the sun! Pack a stylish sunhat and a great pair of shades. Plus, be sure to bring along those bottles of sunscreen you bought back home, because a gorgeous sunless tan doesn’t offer any protection from the sun. Reapply frequently, because nothing can ruin a wonderful tropical honeymoon like a bad case of sunburn!
