Most jam making requires preservatives and jarring systems. However, you can get homemade jam in a few quick and easy steps. Start by grabbing your favorite summer fruit. For this example, strawberries are used.

2/12 cups chopped fruit
¼ cup sugar
Pinch of salt
Note: This is a preservative free jam recipe
Combine the fruit, sugar and pinch of salt in a heavy bottomed pot. Cut a wedge of lemon, squeeze juices in the mixture and drop rind into the pot.
Stirring and mashing
Cook and mash the fruit until the mixture reaches a boil. Stir frequently and continue to cook for 5-8 minutes until the jam has thickened. (Click here to find out how you can test your jams doneness with the spoon test). Taste the jam and add sugar or lemon juice as needed.
Place jam in a glass jar and store in the refrigerator for up to the three weeks. Want to enjoy your jam at a later date or save it for baking later on? No problem! You can freeze your jam!
