-This is a disclaimer acknowledging that every Friday from here on out I will provide to you a weeks worth of Horror movies on the rental and VOD circuit. Some of these movies are so bad they will never see the light of day on the main screen but some are hidden gems unknown to the general mainstream moviegoers. I feel it its my duty to make sure you don’t miss out on any future cult classics so I bring to you my weekly installment of Horror Movies Uncut. The thoughts and opinions on these reviews are clearly my own and should be shared by many!
BEST PICK OF THE WEEK
With the government’s recent shutdown how fitting is it that this weeks pick is The Purge. Here is my official review for The Purge. I really enjoyed The Purge as it was a well done home invasion film with an intense premise. The scariest thing about The Purge is the existence of the world which is ok with this type of controlled chaos. The privileges kids that are the killers aren’t as strong as I hoped them to be once they entered but overall I think the film worked. Most of you already have The Purge on your list so pick this one up this weekend! 4/5
THE REST OF THE FILMS
I was excited when I heard they were making this film. At first it was announced that a remake was in order then we found out that it would just be a missing piece to the franchise. The best thing about Curse of Chucky is the return to a silent Chucky that looks for kills more than laughs. Towards the end the Chucky we know and love comes out but the look and feel of this movie is wonderful. What was not great was the performance of Fiona Dourif who really crushed the film on many levels with her uninspiring performance. If it wasn’t for the return of a sneaky unseen Chucky doing most of the killings. Overall I enjoyed Curse of Chucky and think you should pick it up as a great horror treat for the month of October. 3/5
Read my review for Shiver here. I really enjoyed the role portrayed by John Jarratt. He is the best reason to watch Shiver as we see in full glory the madness of a serial killer. The killers name is the Gryphon and Danielle Harris is his next conquer. Shiver is another in a long list of good slasher that have hit horror fans in the past year. even though the film starts of slow give Shiver a chance as i think the performance of John Jarratt will sneak up on you. 3/5
NOTHING LEFT TO FEAR-
Slash of Guns and Roses fame has lept into horror with the first film under his Slasher Films company Nothing Left To Fear. The film tales the story of a family that has moved to Stull Kansas said to be a gateway to hell. What they don’t know is the town has invited this family as an official sacrifice to keep the demons at bay. Wasn’t a bad film just a story that seemed to repeat itself. The execution of the story was well done but towards the end you are waiting for a something more dramatic to occur but there is a slight letdown. Still a very watchable film and not a bad start for Slasher Films. 2/5
Static is one of those films when you watch it it does not seem like a great film, but at the end you get it. The twist at the end of this movie is one that has been done in many supernatural tales. Not saying that you will see it coming but it has been done before. The movie stars Milo Ventimiglia as he and his wife get a mysterious stranger at the door who warns of visitors outside. We soon find out there is more than meets the eye with this stranger as she lead the to a realization they did not see coming. The scare factor isn’t too high in Static but the actors do a great job of keeping the film interesting. Not a bad film to see if you are into mystery horror but those looking for a little more violence may want to keep away. 2/5
Also known as Bone Boys hits DVD this week. Read my official review for Butcher Boys here. Butcher Boys is a wild ride into a bad night for a group of unsuspecting kids. Butcher Boys will remind you of films like Hostel but cannibal element we see in some recent movies is present here. I felt certain parts of Butcher Boys were rushed and unimaginative which hurt the film. I would tell most fans to pass on Butcher Boys but if you are a fan of the cannibal genre than this is one to see. 2/5
This had a chance of being one of the picks this week. This crime drama has a gory turn that really kicked the film into gear. I was real surprised at how well done this film was and would tell most to check it out. There are tons of horror elements in Cold Blooded as we a see a jewel theif stuck in a hospital with killers at bay. He is protected by an officer in for the worst night of her life. This film works for more than just horror fans. As long as you can deal with a few gory details I think many will enjoy Cold Blooded so pick this up today. 3/5
This would be the low point of the list. After Effect is about a bunch of people who have signed up for a clinical study. They think they are doing a normal run of the mill study but it’s actually an experiment to turn people into flesh eating zombies. Well it works and soon enough our small group is in a fight for survival mostly against themselves. Not the best acting but the gore is pretty good. Zombie fans may like the new approach of the infection but other than that its a typical zombie movie. 2/5
4 DEAD GIRLS THE SOUL TAKER-
Not a good film by any means and if you can make it through the first 30 minutes I would be surprised. The film involves a group of girls moving into their new place. After the sex and fighting they realize they are being taunted by an evil spirit that wants the souls of the impure women. It was very annoying to see this film take place in the same house the entire time and what was even more annoying was the the fact that there was nothing frightening about this at all. This was a bad attempt at a supernatural and should be missed by many. 1/5
Gotta love Danny Trejo. The man is forever working. Zombie Hunter is a bad version of every Resident Evil film and thats saying a lot. This film also reminded me of a bunch of Uwe Boll movies with the effects and music involved. The story is about a drug in the future that turns people into flesh eating monsters. Soon in the future the number are dwindled and only a few remain. Bring on the axe wielding Priest Danny Trejo and mix is a bunch of pink and purple blood splatter in slo mo. Thats what Zombie Hunter is. This film would be fun if not for the horrible narration segments. Nothing really groundbreaking here just another zombie film. 1/5
