-This is a disclaimer acknowledging that every Friday from here on out I will provide to you a weeks worth of Horror movies on the rental and VOD circuit. Some of these movies are so bad they will never see the light of day on the main screen but some are hidden gems unknown to the general mainstream moviegoers. I feel it its my duty to make sure you don’t miss out on any future cult classics so I bring to you my weekly installment of Horror Movies Uncut. The thoughts and opinions on these reviews are clearly my own and should be shared by many!
BEST PICK OF THE WEEK
Read my official review for Bounty Killer here. This movie was very entertaining for all the wrong reasons. The best part of the film were the over the top kill scenes that seemed to land just right. I really hope many get a chance to see Bounty Killer as its a must have for action and gore fans alike. The movie follows a time in the future where white collar corporations are now war moguls The people have heroes named Bounty Killers that are celebrities that track and run down the evil business execs. It’s not a horror movie at all but has enough kills, blood, and gore to keep any horror fans involved. Make sure you check out Bounty Killer this week so you don;t miss out on this awesome film. 3/5
THE REST OF THE FILMS
RIPD was not as bad as many would lead you to believe and I would actually recommend this if you have older kids. The story follows a cop betrayed by a bad partner only to die and be recruited to the RIPD. Once he arrives he finds out that criminals in our world sometimes have connections to the netherworld. The film has an all star lineup with Ryan Reynolds, Jeff Bridges, and Kevin Bacon. It will remind you a lot of Men In Black as its a funny take on the Dark Horse Comic of the same name. The CGI will get on a few nerves but overall the film plays well. Its not a long movie as well so I would say this would be a good film to check out this week. Don’t expect too much blood and gore but I think you guys will have fun watching RIPD so give it a chance this weekend. 2/5
Now I know most of you will hate the idea of vampires with long nails killing people instead of a bite but you have got to enjoy this movie. Just the backdrop of Byzantium along is worth seeing and once you see the fountains you will be hooked. I was hoping for good things in this movie and I was not disappointed. It was a bold move using the sucreant vampires but it worked with the tale they were making. There is a love story in Byzantium but not enough to turn you away from the film. The only thing that hurt this movie were the constant flashbacks by each of the members of the movie. Even though they tied it together nicely in the end we get the point pretty early. I encourage you guys to rent Byzantium as I think it will remind you of an Anne Rice vampire tale more than the teeny bopper diaries that we have seen recently. One day I know we will return back to violent vampire films and Byzantium is evidence that we are headed in the right direction. 3/5
For sure the WTF am I watching film of the week. Parts softcore porn, parts American Psycho 2 and all bad. The film is about a television producer being pranked by a friend but there is one problem. The lady he uses in the prank is obsessed with the producer. To the point where she puts him through and extreme night of torture. I’ll admit there things I liked about Night Vision but the flow was off. It was a pretty good idea and the actress Noelle Dubois did a fair job as the homicidal visitor. This may be a hard one to watch so you may want to pass on Night Vision. Others may find the erotic horror mood appropriate so I could see a few of you watching this. If you don’t want to rent Night Vision it’s ok as i’m sure it will be on some late night network soon. 2/5
Read my official review of All Hallows Eve here. The creepy little anthology was a great treat for the holiday season. The movie had three different stories all found on a videotape in the kids candy bag. The movies revolves around a sinister character named Art The Clown. He torments the babysitter as she watches these tales of gore until she ultimately becomes one herself. All Hallows Eve reminds us of why we started watching slashers films and the use of the anthology worked great. The only thing I wasn't too happy with was the second segment involving the Aliens. Other than that All Hallows Eve is a great time and a movie to add to our favorite holiday’s collection. 3/5
Unless noted these films can be found at you local Family Video Locations.
