HORROR MOVIES UNCUT FRIDAY FEBRUARY THE 22ND

-This is a disclaimer acknowledging that every Friday from here on out I will provide to you a weeks worth of Horror movies on the rental and VOD circuit. Some of these movies are so bad they will never see the light of day on the main screen but some are hidden gems unknown to the general mainstream moviegoers. I feel it its my duty to make sure you don’t miss out on any future cult classics so I bring to you my weekly installment of Horror Movies Uncut. The thoughts and opinions on these reviews are clearly my own and should be shared by many!

BEST PICK OF THE WEEK

SUSHI GIRL-
It seems as if crime thrillers are the pick of the liter for this weeks rentals and Sushi Girl is one not to miss. Tony Todd and Mark Hamill steal the show as a bunch of criminals looking for some missing diamonds. They believe the diamonds to be in the hands of a recently paroled newbie of the gang and they intend on doing anything they can to him to find them. What starts as a reunion ends in a bloodbath and the only one to witness it all is the lone sushi girl. Will she make it through the night? How many lies and secrets must be kept before the truth is told? Sushi Girl is a must see for this week and making a strong case to be a must see for the year.

THE REST OF THE FILMS

THE MOORING-
If you have seen one horror film with white girls being chased in the woods you have seen them all. Such is the case with The Mooring a demented tale of grooming a suitor in the most violent of ways. It involves a camp of girls that are being punished for paying more attention to their social media lives than their real lives. They are being taken on a social building retreat and are hunted by a sadistic couple with nothing on their minds buts killing. The film wasn't too bad really went nowhere and just became two hours of a cat and mouse chase. With more substance this film could have been something. You still may want to pick it up.

SINISTER-
A huge box office success should also see a good DVD release number as well as the supernatural hit finally hits shelves this week. If you have not seen it I suggest you do as Sinister gives a us a fresh look on the boogie monster with a strong story to match. Ethan Hawke and cast do a formidable job in the film but steals the movies is the home movies showing each family meet their demise. If you are a fan of instagram vintage filters this flick is for you. Pick this up and add it to your collection today.

FUN SIZE
One of the treats of the holiday season (Halloween that is) was the film Fun Size that only received a limited release in select cities. It is a good thing the films come out on DVD 3 months later or many may have missed this film that is great for the whole family. Ever so often we horror fans remember the less violent films that made us fans of the genre even more. It’s Superbad meets Adventures in Babysitting in this hilarious holiday romp. The little kid steals the film and puts on a memorable performance. You haven't seen anything until you see a 10ft robot chicken humping a Volvo. It is a must have.

AXED-
Sometimes it is win or lose with Fangoria Films and it looks like they found a winner with Axed. Not the best film by any means but reminds you a little of the Stepfather movies. A husband loses his job to the same man his wife is having an affair with. Once he is able to get the whole family together he decides to have one last good time with his wife and kids. The good time soon turns deadly as father knows best takes an unexpected turn. The best part of Axed is it comes in at a little under 1 hour and fifteen minutes so it does go longer than needed. The kids are slightly annoying after it seems like they had chance after to chance to get away. Not a film to be liked by all but I think Axed will find it’s place in a few DVD players this week just not your’s.

HOLLOW-
Friends head into the unknown to research a tale about spooky tree out in the woods called the Hollow. Supposedly the legend tales a Romeo and Juliet tale of a couple that couldn't be together so they hung themselves at the tree. What starts a friendly few nights with friends becomes a found footage nightmare of backstabbing and deceit. Is the power of the Hollow compelling the group to turn on each other or is this just another film that has a bad story and is looking to make its mark in the found footage aisle. Slow paced story and Blair Witch effects should allow you to pass up on this one at the store.
