-This is a disclaimer acknowledging that every Friday from here on out I will provide to you a weeks worth of Horror movies on the rental and VOD circuit. Some of these movies are so bad they will never see the light of day on the main screen but some are hidden gems unknown to the general mainstream moviegoers. I feel it its my duty to make sure you don’t miss out on any future cult classics so I bring to you my weekly installment of Horror Movies Uncut. The thoughts and opinions on these reviews are clearly my own and should be shared by many!
BEST PICK OF THE WEEK
Now I know most of you will hate the idea of vampires with long nails killing people instead of a bite but you have got to enjoy this movie. Just the backdrop of Byzantium along is worth seeing and once you see the fountains you will be hooked. I was hoping for good things in this movie and I was not disappointed. It was a bold move using the sucreant vampires but it worked with the tale they were making. There is a love story in Byzantium but not enough to turn you away from the film. The only thing that hurt this movie were the constant flashbacks by each of the members of the movie. Even though they tied it together nicely in the end we get the point pretty early. I encourage you guys to rent Byzantium as I think it will remind you of an Anne Rice vampire tale more than the teeny bopper diaries that we have seen recently. One day I know we will return back to violent vampire films and Byzantium is evidence that we are headed in the right direction. 3/5

THE REST OF THE FILMS
Unfortunately Apartment 1303 did not compare as well to its original inception. I give the creators credit for a good change of pace between the main two acts but not much more. I thought Mischa Barton was terrible and her co actress was not too much better. Apartment 1303 is about a young lady moving away from her drunken mother only to move into an apartment of terror. The previous occupants all killed themselves but there was more to the tale. A young lady that was the first to die has an issue with anyone else living there. Its not a bad story and if you don't mind subtitles I would advise you to check out the original one. There are creepy parts to the film but the acting really hurts the movie. If when watching this film you feel they are trying to replicate an Asian movie in an american way then you are correct. I was actually looking forward to this film but I suggest you guys bypass the hefty VOD price and wait for this one on the flix in the next few months. 2/5

This film was way better than I anticipated and I really enjoyed the performance of Graham. I thought she was flawless with the execution of a nut job housewife with an ongoing daydream of a cooking show. Outside of her obsession with cooking she has a knack for making people around her disappear. After a funny altercation with her husband and a weird romance with a neighbor Compulsion is a classic dark comedy with horror elements infused all over. Someone asked me what the most surprising thing was in Compulsion and I told them cannibalism. This could have easily been a pick of the week and you should pick it up for sure. My only gripe with compulsion are some over exaggerated sex scenes but other than that this could be cult classic material. 3/5
Good old SyFy channel brings us Deadly Swarm. This cgi bee filled movie isn't bad in regards to setting and back story. The actors do a fair job and of course there a few recognizable faces in Swarm. There is never too much to say about syfy originals because they all are about the same. In Deadly Swarm and hunter tricks the local tribe into unleash their ancient killer bees. Of the course the transportation gets side tracked and the bees are unleashed to the earth. If you are a fan of these films do what you do but other can go ahead and pass up on Deadly Swarm. 1/5
I enjoyed the first Hatchet film but I was turned off by the sequel. I hoped the third would be good and I can say I was quite entertained. As usual the kill scenes and blood were plenty but it was nice to see old characters from the first film making cameos in the third. I think its a good way to end the franchise and I really hope this is the last film. The only thing I could see is a prequel of how Victor Crowley came to be. Hatchet 3 is a great addition to the catalog and should be grabbed by all horror fans today. Danielle Harris does a decent job of reprising her role of Mary Beth and Kane Hodder is at it again as Crowley. After finding out Victory Crowley may be invincible one person may have the key to his death but Harris has to be involved. The body count is huge as Derek Mears and a bunch of swat agents go toe to toe with the swamp legend. The ending comes pretty fast so its a great popcorn flick for all genre fans to enjoy. Pick this one up for sure this weekend. 3/5
