Holidays in March: Five lesser-known holidays and how to celebrate them

What holiday do you think needs to exist? This is the day to reach for the stars and start you campaign for the next big holiday. What's been left out of the holiday hoopla? This would be a great day to gather up your friends and start your own holiday petition. May I suggest “National Holiday Blog Writers Day?”Well, it's probably a pretty unofficial holiday, and while little is known about the origin of this date, it could be that many men just didn't have the courage to pop the question on Valentine's Day and needed a bit more time to gather up the nerve. Celebrate by watching this clip of one of the best proposals ever caught on film.“Beware the Ides of March.” It was a famous warning issues by the soothsayer in Shakespeare's famous play “Julius Caesar.” The warning originates as the date that Julius Caesar was assassinated in 44 BCE., where he was stabbed at a senate meeting.  How to celebrate? Break out the Thin Mints. March 12 is the anniversary of the creation of the very first Girl Scout Troupe in 1912. The Girl Scouts was brought together by Juliette “Daisy” Gordon Low, who brought together 18 girls in Savannah, Georgia for the very first Girl Scout meeting. The goal of the Girl Scouts was to bring girls out of their isolated homes to enjoy the outdoors, community service and more. Today there are more than 3.2 million girls and adults in the Girl Scout organization. Celebrate with this great Thin Mint flavored cocktail recipe:3/4 oz. Irish Cream (Bailey's)3/4 oz. Sure the big holiday this month is St. Patrick's Day, and everyone is gearing up with their green beer and corned beef, but there are also plenty of lesser-known and offbeat holidays that are just as much fun (and educational) to celebrate.   • Celebrate the small business on this day, founded by Rick Segal, who's parents started Ruth's, a small hat shop in Everett, Massachusetts that ended up growing in to a large specialty women's clothing store.  For those that run a small business, like Segal's parents, it is the long hours, dedication and hard work that go into making dreams come true.
