Strong high pressure will build into the region through the course of the day today. The effects of this fair weather maker will remain in place through the weekend. After high temperatures a couple degrees below normal today, followed by a chilly night tonight, a return to slightly above normal temperatures is expected to close the weekend and head into the new work week.
Looking at the broad scale features across the lower 48 states for the coming week, a large upper level ridge of high pressure looks to build over the center of the nation. There will be corresponding troughs over the western and eastern thirds of the nation as result of this building ridge. The Capital Region will be on the fringe, right between the deepest portion of the trough and the crest of the ridge for most of the upcoming work week before the pattern looks to shift yet again in time for the holiday weekend.
In terms of sensible weather over the region for the coming week, the pattern that looks to shape up is analogous with slightly above normal temperatures, along with chances for scattered shower activity from time to time as weak disturbances ride in between the ridge and trough structures, right over our region.
