Hedberg leads Devils to shutout win over Islanders

Johan Hedberg made several big saves in route to a 3-0 shutout win over the New York Islanders on Sunday afternoon in Long Island. Steve Bernier scored two late third period goals, one on the power play, to seal the victory for New Jersey, snapping a four game skid. David Clarkson added an empty net goal for this team leading fifth of the season.

The Devils played a patient game and waited for their opportunities. The victory improved them to 4-1-3 on the season. New Jersey killed off all seven power play opportunities for New York, and finished 1 for 4 with the man advantage.

Defenseman Mark Fayne returned to the Devils’ lineup this afternoon after sitting out the last two games with a minor arm injury. Henrik Tallinder, Stefan Matteau and defenseman Peter Harrold were healthy scratches for New Jersey. Albany Devils right wing Bobby Butler got his first start of the season after being recalled on Saturday. Butler played on the fourth line with Krys Barch and Jacob Josefson.
