As a continuation to the 30-day Detox article posted in January, I thought it was appropriate, especially if you’ve started the detox, to offer additional healthy snacks. This month-long cleanse is tough because it takes away dairy, sugar, glutton, peanuts, red meat and pork. It allows for Chicken, cold-water fish, plant based protein, a lot of berries, nuts and leafy vegetables.
Once I realized the scope of my food selection within the cleanse parameters, I thought it important to understand the true definition of a berry. As defined by Wikipedia.org, “The botanical definition of a berry is a fleshy fruit produced from a single ovary. Grapes are an example. The berry is the most common type of fleshy fruit in which the entire ovary wall ripens into an edible pericarp. They may have one or more carpels with a thin covering and fleshy interiors. The seeds are usually embedded in the flesh of the ovary (there are some non-fleshy exceptions, such as peppers.”
I was happy to realize I could eat nuts, just not peanuts. Onward I went snacking on a variety of raw nuts and berries.
