Healthy Protein Requires 5 Minutes of Your Time

How can you get a healthy source of protein, rich in minerals, vitamins, and fiber in five total minutes of your time? Turn your attention to a package of dry, chickpeas. Here is the five minute method:

1 minute: Measure 1/2 lb of beans and rinse. Place into a glass bowl and cover with 4 cups of water. Set aside while you sleep.

* 8 hours of sleep for optimum health:

Although some people claim to feel rested on just a few hours of sleep a night, research shows that people who sleep so little over many nights don't perform as well on complex mental tasks as do people who get closer to seven hours of sleep a night. Studies among adults also show that getting less or much more than seven hours of sleep a night is associated with a higher mortality rate. - SOURCE

1 minute: Rinse beans when you get up in the morning and transfer to a saucepan large enough to hold beans and 3 cups of water. Place on stove top and bring to a boil over medium high heat.

2 minutes: Reduce heat but keep high enough so beans boil for 2 minutes.

1 minute: Turn off heat and allow beans to rest. Drain. Make sure they are tender and season as per personal taste suggest. Hint: A little salt, pepper, lemon juice, parsley... maybe garlic, cumin.

Total minutes: 5 minutes of attention time to a pot of cooked, healthy, nutrient rich, protein packed chickpeas. Add to salads, soups, make a dip, and even get creative by using mashed beans in sweet dessert or snack treats.

2nd minute of your time requires rinsing the beans after you get up the next morning. Simply transfer them to a saucepan large enough to hold 3 cups of water. Place the pan on the stove top and bring to a boil over medium heat.  

*So easy, you can do this while getting your own breakfast ready.

3rd and 4th minute: 2 minutes to boil

For the 3rd and 4th minute of your time, it will take 2 minutes to boil the chickpeas.  After they are done boiling, turn off the heat, check to make sure they are fork tender, cover and drain when ready.

Finally the chickpeas are ready to be seasoned and used in your favorite dish.  Maybe a soup? Maybe a salad?  If you want to eat the chickpeas simply tossed onto a bed of greens, sprinkle them with lemon, salt, pepper, parsley. Your done!

Use chickpeas to make classic hummus. Get creative with dips and add texture by topping with couscous, or fine chopped nuts, maybe even seeds such as toasted sesame or pumpkin.   

Chickpeas have a light buttery flavor and they will pick up any additional seasoning you add to the dish. They are healthy, good for weight loss, and offer overall nutritional benefits.
