San Franciscans who want to escape the fog for a bit can easily head south to San Jose. Close enough for a day trip, convenient for an overnight, at 48 miles from San Francisco Civic Center it's less than a tank of gas for a great change of pace.
Just hop onto 101 South or use Caltrain to head straight for downtown San Jose. There's a parking garage under the newly renovated and expanded McEnery Convention Center on West San Carlos Street. It's may be useful to check the convention center schedule, because if a big meeting is in town, parking elsewhere would be easier.
Right beside the convention center, popular hotels are the San Jose Hilton and the San Jose Hyatt Place Downtown. When the San Jose Sharks schedule calls for a home game, the hotels fill up fast, as the Shark Tank is only a short walk.
Here's a list of some fun things to do in San Jose, and don't forget the Winchester Mystery House, no spoiler alert here, but it's a fascinating story about a very odd place, just two minutes' walk from Santana Row.
