Sonoma County’s top fundraising event each year is the Sonoma Wine Country Weekend, presented by Visa Signature. To date, more than $11 million has been invested in Sonoma County’s charities as a result of funds raised through this event. The weekend is jointly produced by the Sonoma Valley Vintners & Growers Alliance (www.SonomaValleyWine.com) and the Sonoma County Vintners (www.SonomaWine.com) and just could not be more fun.
Aside from the numerous intimate, often quite unique and always enjoyable winemaker luncheons and dinners (other stories to follow) which occurred all around the county, the weekend had three headline events.
Sonoma Starlight which kicked off Sonoma Wine Country Weekend Friday night with local chefs and wineries gathering under the stars at Coppola's Alexander Valley winery and event center, complete with live music and dancing.
Saturday's highlight was a Taste of Sonoma at MacMurray Ranch in Healdsburg which offered somewhere near 2,000 guests the special opportunity to taste wines from about 200 Sonoma County wineries including small, medium and large vintners. AMAZING! There were excellent food demonstrations and Steel Chef cooking competitions with celebrity judges and well known MCs like Clark Wolf and Marcy Smothers. Of course, food pairings abounded with bubbles provided by Gloria Ferrer at the Bubbles Lounge. Guests who purchased a Grand Reserve ticket enjoyed access to an exclusive tasting of limited release wines, preferred event seating, and other benefits of the day.
The heart of the Sonoma wine country weekend is the Sonoma Harvest Wine Auction at Chateau St. Jean. The live auction lasts all day and brings guests together with local winemakers and growers to raise funds for over 30 local charities. An online auction which runs for several days offers the opportunity for people local and distant to bid on beautiful packaged wine, lodging and food adventures all based upon the products of Sonoma County.
