Grammy best and worst moments for 2013

Earlier in the evening, during the Grammy Awards Pre-Telecast, Juanes won a Grammy Award for Best Latin Pop Album.  His acoustic performance in English did not do him or the audience any favors.  His performance showed none of the fire and flash which won him that Grammy.  This was an unfortunate introduction to the English-speaking audience.After several highs that Rihanna could have given the audience by performing "Stay", singing in the Bob Marley tribute, and wearing that stunner of a red dress, she dropped into the red.  Negative opinions have soared.  Many have lost respect for the singer for going back to her abusive ex. Read more: Rihanna cuddling with Chris Brown at the Grammys. The 55th Annual Grammy Awards took place in Los Angeles on Sunday, February 10. Every year music fans look forward to what outrageous things will happen at the Grammy Awards. This year was filled with many great moments, and a few that leave everyone wondering what just happened.

The televised ceremony was chock full of great and not so great moments from J Lo showing off her leg to Jack White absolutely killing it on stage in his peacock suit. Katy Perry's gown stole the show wherever she went, even though she remains Grammyless. Some of the great moments came from watching the Grammy Pre-Telecast.

The lowest of the low moments was seeing Rihanna back together with Chris Brown. It's not hard to see that Brown still has anger issues. What can she be thinking?

  • Taylor Swift can't stop herself from enjoying "We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together," and the audience enjoyed it with her as she hammed it up in Mad Hatter style.  She even had a March Hare running around.  The Queen of Spades and her crew didn't quite represent the look as well as they could have, but it was still a winning moment and probably the fullest stage with all of those crazy clown dancers.  Of course it wouldn't be complete without out the "boyfriend" she broke up with represented by a guy tied to a crazy wheel.  Fun, but who's going to go out with her after that?

  • Justin Timberlake always had a bit more croon in his voice than his songs allowed for.  For this album he's completely given into exactly what he should be doing.  His fans have nothing to worry about.  Despite the big band backing him, he's still true to his urban roots.  Jay-Z joined him for a bit of a rap and the music was soulful.  But look out Michael Buble, JT can really hit those high notes!  This was a definite win, and the audience was eating out of his hand.
  • J Lo mocked the memo sent out by CBS by showing as much of her leg as possible.  Her presenting partner, Pitbull clearly enjoyed every minute of this, as did the audience.  It was clearly an homage to Angelina Jolie's right leg which premiered at the Oscars last year.
  • Katy Perry knows how to have a great night no matter what.  She probably felt it in her bones that she would not win a Grammy over Adele.  Her daring breast-baring dress was a hit with Ellen Degeneres and Portia de Rossi and left mouths agape and jaws on the floor. Perry has been nominated a total of 9 times and lost each one, leading all to ask the question, "Is Katy Perry the Grammys biggest loser?"  When she presented for "Best New Artist", she joked, "If you don't win, I was never even nominated in this category and I have my own eyelash line."
  • The band Fun. had a great evening picking up two Grammy Awards for Best New Artist and for Song of the Year.  "We Are Young" features Janelle Monae who sat behind them in the audience.  Their performance of "Carry On" featured the band dancing in a rainstorm.  Jack Antonoff played a great guitar solo while soaking wet.  Their performance was energetic and lit up the stage with very little in the way of special effects.  They wowed by being wonderful.
  • Alicia Keys wowed people with "Girl On Fire" and her under-breast-bearing dress, that is until the song became something else with Adam Levine joining in.  Keys' dress was an obvious ploy to take another poke at the CBS memo issued to artists regarding wardrobe decency.  But the real low point was that the mashup of Adam Levine and Alicia Keys didn't work very well musically.  If only the Grammy performance scheduling committee had decided to go with a better idea than having them perform together because their first names start with A.
  • Yes, not only was he hosting, he performed at the Grammys and gave the audience a real knockout.  Chuck D, Travis Barker, DJ Z-Trip,  and guitarist Tom Morrello joined up for a great performance which paid a brief homage to Beastie Boy Adam Yauch who passed away last year.  Not only do the Ladies Love Cool James, everyone else does too.  "No Sleep Till Brooklyn!"
  • Jack White emerged as the king of paired-down grunge.  He shredded on his guitar and sang with gusto.  All eyes were on him and the Elvis hommage sequined peacock feather eyes which adorned his suit.  White's performance was an unbeatable high point, even though "Blunderbuss" was beat out of three Grammys.
  • Kelly Clarkson gave the audience another positive Grammy moment singing Patti Page's "Tennessee Waltz" and Carole King's "Natural Woman.".  It seems like she can be handed just about anything and learn it in 5 minutes.  To top it all off, she won the Best Pop Vocal Album Grammy for "Stronger."  She also got stuck to Miranda Lambert when they hugged after Clarkson's win was announced.
  • Ed Sheeran and Elton John didn't exactly create any magic here causing a definite energy sink.  Sheeran didn't get to show off his magic or build his song to the point that made it special, and Elton's talents were ill-used here.  It would have been preferable to hear Gotye and Kimbra singing "Somebody I Used To Know."  The same committee who put Alicia Keys and Adam Levine together by their first initials decided to put the British people together who had the same first initial of E.   The ultimate result was lame twice over.
  • Her million megawatt attitude was to have fun with her tour partner Dierks Bently and give an enjoyable performance together, which the audience also truly enjoyed.  She also reminded everyone, "Country music is a big family."
  • After reportedly having some kind of scuffle with Frank Ocean, Chris Brown got his comeuppance when Ocean won in the new "Best Urban Contemporary Album" category for "Channel Orange."  He then gave a pitchy performance of "Forest Gump" from his album.  But he beat Chris Brown, so all is forgiven.  He gave both a high and a "meh."
  • Though no one saw it because it was on the Pre-Telecast part of the Grammy Awards, The Civil Wars Joy Williams and John Paul White, Taylor Swift, and T-Bone Burnett won a Grammy for "Safe & Sound" vindicating the loss to Adele at the Golden Globes.  This was a high point if you were watching.  The Civil Wars won two Grammy Awards last year and seem to have been through some major internal conflicts.
  • Adele may have been wearing a dress reminiscent of grandmother's upholstery, but she so cute when she wins, it's forgivable.  She won yet another Grammy to add to her burgeoning collection for "Set Fire to the Rain" [live].
