No one can deny that President Barack Obama is one of the most charming presidents we have ever had.
He is literally an orator extraordinaire (teleprompters or not). Regardless of political leaning, these are characteristics on which most people agree.
As a pastor and lecturer who has worked tediously to utilize words effectively in public situations, this writer can testify that the president (and/or his speech writer) is often a very impressive word smith making every word work and impressing his audience with hope; even if the change has probably long since been forgotten.
NBC Tonight Show host Jay Leno like the President is if nothing else (by all accounts), a real charmer. Most guests agree that he is the most non-intimidating talk show host in media.
Leno is also a very funny man and has always seemed fair in the political arena with all candidates and politicians regardless of their leaning.
As radio talk show host Glenn Beck recently stated, “Jay Leno is just a decent person and fair American”.
So pairing the President and the comedian talk show host for two nights of interviews makes for interesting television viewing. It is also a demonstration of Leno’s ability to go way beyond his normal comfort zone of interviewing Hollywood and media celebrities and his nightly comedy monologue.
Many have questioned the reason for such an interview by Leno in the midst of his ousting by NBC and replacement by Jimmy Fallon.
There are also pundits on both sides of the political isle who have questioned the president’s rationale for doing such an extensive interview on the late night program at this time; after all the president is not running for any office.
As to Leno, there have been murmurings among the media that the unusual interview of the president was possibly put together by the Leno staff as an on air demonstration to another network (most believe FOX or FOX News) of Leno’s versatility.
The president has many reasons to be sure for doing the late night interview but there are three which this writer sees as essential to this presidency being seen as a success.
