Giants' notable draft picks since 2006

Madison Bumgarner was selected with the 10th overall selection in 2007. He is believed by some experts to have the highest ceiling on a rotation that also features Tim Lincecum and Matt Cain. Bumgarner was taken out of South Caldwell High School in North Carolina.After Bumgarner, the Giants also selected pitcher Tim Alderson and infielder Charlie Culberson.   • Buster Posey was the fifth overall selection in 2008 out of Florida State University.After being given the highest signing bonus in club history, Posey has gone on to win several awards including Rookie of the Year, Silver Slugger, the National League batting title and Most Valuable Player.
  • Brandon Crawford was drafted in the fourth round of the 2008 draft out of UCLA. He is known as one of the best defensive shortstops in baseball, despite just being at the major-league level for 209 games.Crawford grew up just south of San Francisco in Mountain View.
  • Although Zack Wheeler was traded for Carlos Beltran in 2011, he still ranks among the top pitching prospects in baseball, which is a testament to the Giants' scouting.Wheeler was selected as the sixth overall pick in 2009 out of East Paulding High School in Georgia.The Giants second round pick, Tommy Joseph, was traded to Philadelphia along with Nate Schierholtz for Hunter Pence.
  • Brandon Belt was the Giants' fifth-round selected in 2009. He attended the University of Texas.Belt's smooth swing and solid glove have earned him the right to be the Giants everyday first baseman. 
  • Gary Brown was the Giants first-round draft pick in 2010 out of Cal State Fullerton. He is known for his speed and defensive ability in center field. Brown currently ranks as the organization's fourth-best prospect for 2013 and finished last season at AAA Fresno.
  • Joe Panik was drafted with the team's first pick in 2011 out of St. Johns University. The infielder currently ranks as the organization's second-best prospect.Panik plays shortstop and finished 2012 in High-A San Jose.
  • Kyle Crick has emerged as the organization's top prospect despite just being drafted in the supplemental first round of 2011. Crick is a tall, hard-throwing righty, but figures to have a considerable way to go before making an impact in San Francisco. He finished 2012 in Low-A Augusta.
  • Giants fans may not be familiar with Stratton, but they should be. Last year's first-round selection out of Mississippi State was the SEC Pitcher of the Year in 2012.He made just eight appearances for Salem-Keizer last year in rookie ball, but finished with a 2.76 era. He currently ranks as the organization's third-best prospect, according to Baseball America.
