It's hard to believe that October is almost here, and pumpkins will start appearing in grocery stores and markets in the next few weeks. Fun read-alouds about pumpkins are plentiful for family reading time. Books about growing pumpkins, fun characters that have adventures with pumpkins, and even books with recipes for preparing pumpkin treats are all in the bookstores now. Your children's librarian has an abundance of books about pumpkins on the library shelves for your child to pick until it is time to pick a pumpkin.
Each selected book in the List describes a pumpkin patch. Many children will think that pumpkins actually do come from the grocery store. Reading about the pumpkin patch will let them know that pumpkins actually are grown from a seed. Many communities sponsor "pumpkin patches" with pumpkins brought in from actual farms to show children that pumpkins grow on the ground, and children have the opportunity to choose a pumpkin from the patch.
Two of the chosen books in the List are great for early math skills. Counting and story problems are featured in these two fun read-alouds.
Check out these selections to give your child a beginning collection of pumpkin books that they will want to add more to the collection as October moves along.
