Cooking with children is a popular activity for teachers/caregivers in childcare centers. Stay-at-home parents often cook with children. Cooking with children offers several opportunities for learning. Pre-reading, reading, and math skills can all be strengthened when a child prepares a recipe. Teachers/caregivers in childcare centers often prepare a rebus recipe with picture, words, and numbers to encourage pre-reading skills for young children. Measuring, weighing ingredients, and counting ingredients are all math skills that children have the opportunity to use when preparing a recipe. Older children are able to read a recipe from a cookbook.
Sarasota has several opportunities for children to attend a cooking class that is designed especially for them. The cooking classes that are sponsored by the selected venues in the List offer creative cooking activities for children from the age of 4 years of age through the teen years. One of the organizations in the List offers a cooking class for infants and toddlers to participate in with a parent or grandparent. The venue offered by one of the selections in the List is of special interest for the upcoming holiday season, and another selected venue will be of special interest in that children will have the opportunity to prepare a variety of foods from all over the world with its Around the World Kids Camp.
Check out the List for these selected cooking schools for your child. Registration is currently in progress for all of the selected classes for the fall.
