George W. Bush unveils his painting of Barney: Top five benefits of painting

Former President George W. Bush unveiled his oil painting of Barney, the beloved White House dog, as he announces his death from lymphoma on Friday, Feb. 1. 2013. CBS News has the story. The former president began oil painting as a hobby when he retired to his farm in Texas.

Barney, a Scottish Terrier, was 12 ½ years old when he died. George W. Bush likes to paint dogs, and his oil painting of Barney does convey a significance likeness to his constant companion.

Oil painting, along with other artistic endeavors, has many benefits. Artists and hobbyists will quickly tell you the total relaxation and escape that they experience when painting.

It is also interesting to note that it is never too late to begin painting. According to Aging Home Health Care, Grandma Moses was in seventies when she began her painting career using house paint and no fancy art lessons!
