Along with fresh fall vegetables, many pets enjoy fall fruits and berries. These items should be used as extras or supplements to your pet's normal diet. Be sure to consider pet size when doling out these tasty treats. One or two blueberries is plenty for a hamster while a horse may appreciate two or three apples. You can also share with a pet. For instance if you are eating an apple, take off a slice or two for your dog.
Always look for organic produce if possible. Even a small amount of pesticide residue could be fatal to a small pet or bird. All fresh produce should be rinsed in a vinegar bath, then rinsed again with clear, cold water. Dry carefully before refrigerating or storing.
Cats may not be thrilled about fresh fruits but most pocket pets, rabbits, birds, dogs and many livestock pets enjoy fruit and berries. Some pets will even pick their own fruit and berries!
