Vithaya Pansringarm is a Thai actor who has achieved much success in a very short time. He began acting only four years ago and has already worked with biggies including Ryan Gosling, Nicolas Winding Refn, Mira Sorvino, Kristin Scott Thomas, Eric Roberts, and more.
His roles have gone from brutal corrupt cop in "Only God Forgives," to an executioner in Thailand who used a machine gun.
Away from all of the characters, he is a peaceful man ... sort of. Pansringarm is a fifth degree black belt in Kendo Japanese fencing.
In an exclusive one-on-one interview, Pansringarm spoke freely with Examiner Dorri Olds.
"In Kendo, we fight each other like Darth Vader, but afterward we put down our swords and go out for a drink together. I like the philosophy behind martial arts. You practice your violent instincts in a more positive way, so as not to become a violent person in life."
"In 'Only God Forgives,'" Pansringarm said, "originally, during one scene I was supposed to be boxing but when Nicolas learned about my background in fencing he changed the scene to a sword fight. He was very open as a director. I feel so fortunate to have worked with Nicolas and Ryan. I happened to get a great opportunity. I am so thankful.
