It was not much of a surprise for Baylor to take most of the Big 12 honors, which were released Thursday, March 7, 2013. The No. 1 ranked Baylor Bears had the coach of the year, player of the year, and defensive player of the year. The Bears also had two make first team all Big 12.
Oklahoma State had an up and down season, but still four Cowgirls were honored.
Senior Toni Young was named First Team all Big-12. Sophomore guard Tiffany Bias was named to the second team. Forward Liz Donahoe was given honorable mention. Freshman Guard Brittney Martin was named to the all-freshman team. Martin was also this week's freshman of the week, which was her fourth time to win the honor. Bias, Young and Martin were unanimous picks.
Baylor's Brittney Griner was an obvious choice for player of the year, and is a favorite to repeat as national player of the year. She was also named defensive player of the year and to the first team.
Baylor's Kim Mulkey was named coach of the year. Baylor's Destiny Williams was named sixth-man of the year. Junior guard Oddyssy Sims was named to the first team for Baylor and was also named to the all defensive team.
