Four Cowgirls win Big 12 honors

For the second consecutive year, Tiffany Bias was named an all-conference second-team selection. The junior is currently averaging 6.7 assists per contest, whichranks third among league players and ninth nationally, while her 2.2 steals per game is the fifth-best average in the Big 12. The Andover, Kan., native ranks second in the league with her 36.5 minutes played per game as well and is fourth in assist-to-turnover ratio.   Brittney Martin was unanimously selected to the all-freshman team. The Syracuse, Utah native currently ranks in the top five among Big 12 freshman in scoring (3rd), rebounding (2nd), steals (1st), blocked shots (5th) and assists (4th). It was not much of a surprise for Baylor to take most of the Big 12 honors, which were released Thursday, March 7, 2013. The No. 1 ranked Baylor Bears had the coach of the year, player of the year, and defensive player of the year. The Bears also had two make first team all Big 12.

Oklahoma State had an up and down season, but still four Cowgirls were honored.

Senior Toni Young was named First Team all Big-12. Sophomore guard Tiffany Bias was named to the second team. Forward Liz Donahoe was given honorable mention. Freshman Guard Brittney Martin was named to the all-freshman team. Martin was also this week's freshman of the week, which was her fourth time to win the honor. Bias, Young and Martin were unanimous picks.

Baylor's Brittney Griner was an obvious choice for player of the year, and is a favorite to repeat as national player of the year. She was also named defensive player of the year and to the first team.

Baylor's Kim Mulkey was named coach of the year. Baylor's Destiny Williams was named sixth-man of the year. Junior guard Oddyssy Sims was named to the first team for Baylor and was also named to the all defensive team.

  • Sophomore Liz Donohoe was named an honorable mention all-league selection for the second year in a row. The Edmond, Okla., native currently leads the Big 12 in free-throw percentage at 92.4 percent and is third in three-point field-goal percentage at 36.7 percent. Donohoe also ranks seventh in scoring at 14.9 points per outing. She was also freshman of the year last year.
