They shredded the Devils Saturday and they beat the Rangers Thursday and now the New York Islanders take on the Philadelphia Flyers this afternoon at home. The two-game winning streak follows a disappointing five-game losing streak to open up the month.
Islanders star center John Tavares has been propelling the team forward with goals at key moments including a hat track against the Devils Saturday. Tavares leads the team in goals (11) and points (20) and is just one goal behind the league leader, Thomas Vanek, who scored yesterday.
The Islanders and Flyers are attempting to get back into the playoff hunt and a win would give the Islanders some separation from the Flyers. Each team has 13 points but the Islanders have two less games played. The Ottawa Senators are hanging onto the last playoff spot in eighth place (16 points) but seem to be falling fast due to major injuries. The Devils play the Senators this afternoon while the Islanders face them Tuesday.
