Flash in the pan: The shortest celebrity marriages

That’s all it took for Carmen and Rodman to decide their wedding in Vegas wasn’t going to work out.  While Rodman’s publicist did question the legality of their nuptials because of the basketball star's level of intoxication, the pair claimed their love was real.Carmen later had this to say to ‘People’ magazine of their flash in the pan marriage: "It's easy to get caught up in a moment. You think it's romantic, but then you realize, 'God, we did it in Vegas?' It's like getting a cheeseburger at a fast-food restaurant." After just 14 days Murphy and Edmonds parted ways.The two were married in a private ceremony on an island off of Bora Bora in January 2008. However, their nuptials were not legal in the U. S. so they decided to renew their vows in the States. But only a fortnight after their island wedding they separated. Britney Spears had perhaps the shortest marriage, clocking in at only 55 hours. Before court hearings, stays in rehab and shaving her head in public plagued Brit's image, her first public misstep was her marriage in 2004 to childhood friend Jason Alexander. Kim and Kris lasted only 72 days before calling it quits.Now Kim’s pregnant with Kanye West’s child and wants to speed up the divorce process, even reportedly offering Humphries $10 million to end the marriage. Kris is refusing however, because he wants the marriage annulled, saying he thinks the whole thing was a fraud.We’re doubtful though. Would someone who purposefully leaked a sex tape just to become famous really take the sacred vows of marriage so frivolously?

Ah, celebrity love! Intense and romantic one minute and viciously bitter the next. We’ve all heard the stories of stars vowing to love each other until “death do us part” and yet, within the year they’re fighting over every detail and angle of a divorce. Just ask Kim Kardashian, Scarlett Johansson, or Katy Perry.

While there are couples like John Travolta and Kelly Preston who have managed to stay married despite the tragic, premature death of their son Jett in 2009, and the countless sexual assault and battery allegations brought against Travolta. The typical tenure of a Hollywood marriage is about as short as the time it takes LiLo to go from one scandal to the next.

Maybe it’s living under the microscope of reality TV cameras or the constant clicking of paparazzi photos, but one thing is sure: Their idea of eternal has a very short shelf-life.

Look at Kim Kardashian who was married to Kris Humphries for an impressive 72 days. Now that she’s pregnant with Kanye West’s child, Kris is stubbornly refusing to grant her a divorce, saying the marriage was a sham in the first place.

After two short weeks Landry decided to annul their marriage.The cause?She found out Lopez had been unfaithful throughout their entire 6-year relationship. 
  • Reality star Lozada divorced NFL player Chad Johnson after only 41 days.The reason?Evidently Johnson couldn’t distinguish reality from the football field. He supposedly head-butted her when she found condoms and confronted him about them. She was having none of it, however, and had him arrested on a domestic battery charge.Her request for a divorce was uncontested. 
  • Kattan and Tutt filed for divorce 42 days into their marriage.‘SNL’ alum Kattan and Sunshine separated almost immediately after saying, “I do” relying on the all-purpose excuse of “irreconcilable differences.” One can only guess what kind of argument is so “irreconcilable” after only a few weeks. Maybe she finally saw some of Kattan’s “acting”? 
  • Anderson’s marriage to Rick Salomon only lasted 60 days. The pair were married in Las Vegas (we’re seeing a trend here) and split just two months later.Should we really be that surprised about this one though, considering her past relationships and a 114 day marriage to Kid Rock? But we are impressed the marriage was even shorter than her marriage to Kid Rock and his to Shannen Doherty. 
  • Actors Ferrell and Warner bowed out of their "I dos" after 3 months.The two married in Bora Bora in July and were splitsville by November.  A source on the set of Farrell’s “The Farm” was quoted as saying, "When they came back, they figured out they couldn't be together."There was good news, however. When they tried to file for divorce they found out they were never legally married anyway. No settlements or nasty accusations to hurl or deny. That’s always nice, isn’t it? 
  • Only three days after Cher’s divorce to Sonny Bono was finalized, she married Gregg Allman. Apparently the musician wooed her on their first date with sitar music and heroin. Who wouldn’t be smitten, right?But only 9 days later Cher filed for divorce. Sounds more like they lived, ‘Happily never after.”
