In the United States, the men are the ones who show their affections on Valentine’s Day by giving the woman they love various gifts. In Japan, however, women are the ones who confess their affections to the men they are interested in with chocolates (the men choose to reciprocate a month later on White Day).
This Valentine’s Day, regardless of who gets showered with affection, why not celebrate the season of love by watching romantic anime together by the fire? Here are five anime shows that you can easily put on while cozying up with the love of your life.
Ouran High School Host Club
Still a favorite among anime fans, this shoujo anime makes fun of the tropes of the genre. Haruhi is a first year student attending the prestigious Ouran High School on a scholarship. When she accidentally breaks a vase, she’s forced to work as a male host in the school’s host club.
Ai Yori Aoshi
Kaoru and Aoi haven’t seen each other since they were children, with their engagement broken off after Kaoru abandons his powerful family. Aoi, however, never forgot him, and seeks him out to reunite with the one person who she knows is her true love.
Tough guy Kenji wants to confess his love to sweet girl Tenma, but a series of comedic errors prevents him from telling his true feelings to her. The show features a lot of slapstick humor as well as other comedic missed connections between characters.
Ah! My Goddess
University student Keiichi accidentally calls a mysterious hotline, and is greeted by beautiful goddess Belldandy. Thinking it’s a joke, Keiichi makes the wish that she stay with him forever – and she does!
10 year old Negi Springfield has one final test to pass – teach a class of middle school girls without letting on that he’s a wizard. But the task is tougher than it looks, especially when the girls fall in love with him! The second series, “Negima?!,” has less fanservice than the first series.
