Five Reasons Why You Need to Play Omerta: City of Gangsters

While many games do not necessarily benefit from good looking graphics, Omerta breaks that idea in two. The art direction and accurate representation of Atlantic City add to the atmosphere and gameplay of the game. One of the best parts about the graphics/art of this game is the fact you do not need a top of the line PC to play it and have it look brilliant. There are five categories of extra missions to complete and are ever changing as the game progresses. Completing these earn you more than money or resources. Depending on the person you are conducting business with there may be an event that alters your reward. That can be extra money, extra resources  an increase or decrease in your "Feared" or "Liked" rating, even a reduction to your Heat (Police Presence) level.Along with the character you create at the start of the game, you will get a variety of henchman to use. They can be used to do jobs in the city like establish new businesses or they can be used in combat. Each has a different way to attack in combat and they all have unique stats that make them either useful in fights, or useful for doing jobs. Omerta: City of Gangsters is a Strategy title from Kalypso Media and Haemimont Games. Using elements of city management and growth with tactical driven combat the gameplay of Omerta resembles some elements of XCOM: Enemy Unkown. What really sets the game apart is the time era it is in, the Prohibition era. When crime was rampant during the law forbidding the sale and consumption of alcohol this era is not used very often in games not counting the Godfather/Mafia games.

The game is hands down one of the best strategy titles I have played in recent years and this list is here to give you five reasons why you have to play this game. There is so much to do in Omerta and it is a very unique game. In the If you love strategy games, this is a must have. The Xbox 360 version is getting released on Feb 12 but the PC version is available on Steam/GamersGate now.

  • Much like XCOM: Enemy Unkown there are two way to play Omerta. one way is the overworld management system where you earn money, resources, and complete jobs to improve your reputation. The other way is performing combat situations to break allies out of jail, rob banks, even protect your home from rival gangs. The combat is very well done and plays a lot like a polished Jagged Alliance title. 
  • Depending on which area you enter for a new series of missions the rewards could consist of leveling up in addition to additional gang members. The upgrade list is very large and craps on a lot of skill trees in today's RPGs. Yes I am talking to you Mass Effect 3 and Skyrim. New upgrades unlock as you gain more levels and they allow you to fine tune your character to be a force to be reckoned with on the battlefield.
