Rockford, Illinois, is just an hour outside Chicago, and is a must-visit city in the Midwest.
One of the reasons that makes Rockford so special is the Anderson Japanese Gardens. Rockford resident John Anderson laid the foundation for the gardens with a visit to Japan in 1966. The idea was solidified more than ten years later after Mr. Anderson visited the Portland Japanese Gardens. The bucolic 14 acres that make up the Anderson Japanese Gardens have been more then 30 years in the making that made it the perfection that the gardens are today.
