Five options for affordable cat and dog spay/neuter in Bakersfield

The Friends of the Kern County Animal Shelters Foundation offers cat and dog spay/neuter vouchers, which are on a limited and first-come-first-served basis.  There are no income restrictions, and the vouchers can be used at most veterinarians in Kern County, at any AngelDogs clinic and combined with Kern Humane vouchers.  Vouchers are for $20 off the cost of spay or neuter surgery for your cat and $30 off the cost for your dog. There is a limit of two (2) vouchers per household per calendar year.To request a voucher, please email Friends at fkcasf@gmail.com with your name, mailing address, and number of vouchers requested. Be sure to specify if the voucher is for a cat or dog. Along with your voucher(s), you will receive a list of the vets and clinics that accept our vouchers. If the month's allotment has been reached, you will be placed on a waiting list in the order that emails were received.Please note that vouchers are only available to Kern County residents. Kern County Animal Control has a voucher program for low income residents of Kern County.  You can purchase a voucher for $20 - the voucher will cover the entire cost of spaying or neutering any cat or dog.  The vouchers can only be used at specified local veterinarians.  There is a limit of 4 vouchers per person per lifetime.  The vouchers are usually issued on the first Saturday of the month - please call to confirm.201 South Mt. Why would you want to spay or neuter your pet?

Spaying/Neutering promotes healthy and happy pets. The sterilization of your pets can keep them from wandering, lessen the likelihood of cancer, and mellow out their personalities. It also prevents unwanted litters, helping to curb the population and reduce the number of pets that wind up in shelters.

If you still cannot find an affordable way to get your pets fixed, you can also try "Get Your Fix" at www.getyourfix.org - this organization allows owners to profile your pets that need to be spayed or neutered, and allows a good samaritan to sponsor a donation to help you get your pet fixed. The donation goes directly to the clinic or Veterinarian doing the work, through the organization.
