On February 12, The Taste of San Juan launches the Fiesta de las Golondrinas, a yearly event in the city of San Juan Capistrano that celebrates the return of the swallows to the city. This year the event will be held from 6 - 9 p.m. at the beautiful San Juan Hills Golf Club, 32120 San Juan Creek Rd, San Juan Capistrano.

The 18-hole, par-71 public golf course was designed by David Rainville. It has one of the finest restaurants in San Juan and along with more than 20 other restaurants, all under one roof, will be offering their best 'fare' to temp your taste buds. There will also be 'voting booths' at the event, to select ones favorite restaurant in the categories - Best Main Course, Best Original Dish, Best Appetizer, and Best Dessert. Live music will be presented by School Boy Crush.

The 'Taste of San Juan' is a major fundraiser for the all-volunteer, nonprofit organization - the San Juan Capistrano Fiesta Association - that puts on the many events of the Fiesta de la Golodrinas, during February and March ending with the 'swallows day parade on March 23. Admission to The Taste is $20 per person and tickets can be purchased in advance from the San Juan Capistranno Chamber office, phone (949) 493-4700; or at the door the day of the event.

  •  Mollie's Famous Cafe32033 Camino CapistranoSan Juan Capistrano, Calif(949) 240-9261 For that old time home cooking visit Mollie's, where weekday lunch specials feature many favorites such as , spaghetti and meatballs with garlic bread, meatloaf with mashed potatoes and gravy, and barbeque pork with baked beans.  Dinner continues with the same theme, their New England pot roast is just like mother used to make, the beef, potatoes and vegetables are simmered all day so the beef is tender and  falls apart.  Located just 3 blocks from the historic Mission San Juan they open at 5:30 a.m to 8 p.m. except Sunday when they close at 2 p.m.  Lunch specials begin at $4.95 and all soft drinks, coffee and tea come with free re-fills.  For those who like to eat dinner early, they can start at 4 p.m. 
  • El Adobe31891 Camino CapistranoSan Juan Capistrano, Calif(949) 493-1163Perhaps the oldest of all these fine restaurants is the E l Adobe, which has been in San Juan Capistrano since 1948, and is a California State Historic Landmark.  It is located in a building made up of two historic adobes,  a short walk from the Mission San Juan Capistrano and the historic train depot.The restaurant is composed of a variety of rooms, the 'bar, lounge and patio' is to the right of the entrance, where tables are nestled near the original fireplace; the Portola is to the left of the lobby and is a private dining area for small groups, it's thick adobe walls, stained glass windows and Flemish oils which date back to the 1916 San Francisco Expo.The restaurant has a long history of catering weddings in the Chapel and garden area and many civic and private events are held at the restaurant through the year. It is open for lunch, Mon - Sat from 11 a.m. - 4 p.m. and dinner from 4 p.m.  On Sunday, Brunch is held from 10 a.m. - 3 p.m. followed by dinner.
