Today fans everywhere remember James Gandolfini, who would have turned 52 today had it not been for his death in June.
Gandolfini, who was known for his role as Tony Soprano on HBO’s The Sopranos series, died June 19, 2013 in Rome, Italy. His death was the result of a heart attack, according to the coroner.
During his time with The Sopranos, Gandolfini was awarded three Emmys and two Golden Globes for his portrayal of the lead character on the show. The show aired from 1999-2007.
After the series, Gandolfini produced a few documentaries, including Alive Day Memories: Home From Iraq, in which he interviewed Iraq war veterans after they returned from active duty. He also did a documentary about post-traumatic stress disorder in veterans.
Gandolfini, who began his career on the stage, returned to Broadway after his role on the Sopranos.
