On Sept. 9, 2013, the Texas A&M women’s basketball program announced the return of the Gary Blair Coaching Academy, to be held October 5-6 at the Cox-McFerrin Center at Reed Arena on the Aggie campus. The Texas Aggie head coach noted,
“It has always been an important part of my philosophy that we do all that we can to help grow our game. We wanted to start the academy last year with the goal of providing a great weekend where coaches could come and learn at the highest level for a minimum price and we accomplished that.”
The cost of the academy is only $50 in advance for the two-day program, which includes instruction from five of the Aggie women’s basketball coaching staff, three meals and an instructional notebook to take home.
Faculty include Blair (Aggie basketball philosophy and Aggie man offense), Associate Head Coach Kelly Bond-White (Aggie zone offense), Player Development Director Jen Jones (quickness and agility), Assistant Coach Amy Wright (special situations), Assistant Coach Bob Starkey (defensive overload drills). In addition the attendees will have the chance to participate in Q&A sessions and also receive information at program stations. There’s plenty of visiting time at meals and social occasions to build some new friendships as well.
All in all, you’ll leave the campus with a firm foundation on how Texas A&M women’s basketball approaches their program and inspiration to take it back to your school and build your program as you see best.
