Five best 2014 Horror and Sci-fi July 4th Marathons

It's almost time for July 4th, a day full of backyard, barbecues, pool parties and fireworks.

But for those wishing for a respite from the heat, or some downtime, there are several television marathons sure to appease horror and sci-fi fans. Here's the five best to check out next Friday.

The G4 Network will air the superhero drama 'Heroes' over the majority of the July 4th weekend, in addition to episodes of 'Lost', and their anime inspired versions of 'Wolverine' and 'Iron Man.'

4. 'Star Trek: The Next Generation'

The BBC America network will air the adventures of Jean-Luc Picard (Patrick Stewart) and the crew of the Starship Enterprise for the majority of the 2014 July 4th weekend.

IFC will air the campy classic series starring Adam West and Burt Ward from 5am to 3:40pm. Later the network will air action films such as 'Rambo' and 'Conan The Barbarian.'

AMC's monster hit will play all through the July 4th weekend (AMC is dubbing it, The Dead White and Blue marathon), culminating in an new episode of Chris Hardwick's 'The Talking Dead' which will provide a sneak peek at season five (the talk show airs at 8pm central Sunday, July 6th.)

The Syfy Network continues its long standing tradition of airing Rod Serling's classic mix of sci-fi, horror and fantasy from 8am Friday, July 4th to 3:30am July 5th. Click here for the episode schedule
