Five bands not to miss at SXSW 2013 Music Festival

3) Blue Sky Riders are excited to join the SXSW Music Festival this March with seven events scheduled.  On March 13 at 12:30 p.m. the band will be speaking at the SXSW 'Indie At Any Age' Panel along with the band’s 3Dream record label team, Holly Adams and Julie Yannatta, and manager Mandi Davis of Moir Borman Entertainment. The panel will be moderated by Adams and will focus on what happens when a multi-platinum Grammy winning artist with a four decade long career and two highly successful Nashville songwriters decide to form a band and put out their record independently.  Attendees will learn from Kenny Loggins, Georgia Middleman and Gary Burr about how they formed Blue Sky Riders and built their own label, secured distribution and released and marketed their debut album 'Finally Home' without major label support. Later on March 13, Blue Sky Riders will perform an Official SXSW Showcase at St. David’s Historic Sanctuary at 9 p.m. On March 14 at 1 p.m., Blue Sky Riders will treat fans to an intimate acoustic set on The John Lennon Educational Tour Bus, which will be parked at Aussie’s Grill & Beach Bar. March 15 there will be two performances: 3:30 p.m on the Rooftop Plaza at Whole Foods at 6th and Lamar. The second performance will be at 11:15 p.m. for the SXSW Grammy Museum Beatles Tribute at St. David’s Historic Sanctuary. Blue Sky Riders will also perform on Saturday, March 16 at 3 p.m. on the main stage of Rachael Ray’s Feedback party at Stubb’s and will finish their SXSW run at Rebels Honky Tonk that evening.2) Shoes: Hot off the heels of their August 2012 release, 'Ignition,' which was their first new album in 18 years, Shoes are appearing at the South by Southwest SXSW Music Festival in Austin. It is their first time at the event. The power pop band originally hails from Zion, Illinois. Shoes will bring their memorable melodies and do-it-yourself ethic for a series of performances and a discussion panel at one of the most prestigious music gatherings in the United States. Showcases for Shoes include a Wednesday, March 13 show at Molotov for the SXSW Guitartown and Conqueroo party at 1:35 p.m.; a Friday, March 15, 4 p.m. performance at the Ginger Man Pub for the Dog Fish Head and Blurt Magazine SXSW Party; and an Official SXSW showcase presented by CD Baby at 11 p.m. at Maggie Mae’s. Shoes member Jeff Murphy also will be participating on a Friday, March 15th panel discussion at 11 a.m. in Room 11 AB of the Austin Convention Center. “We’re really excited about having the opportunity to participate in SXSW,” says Shoes singer and bass player John Murphy. “It’s a great event with a lot of people who love music.   • 1) Totally Enormous Extinct Dinosaurs has already gained an incredible reputation for his live DJ sets and elaborate stage regalia. The last time TEED played in Austin he packed the Mohawk full of people who couldn't stop dancing. He has a new album named "Trouble" out on Casablanca Records.   • 4) Australian rapper 360 has had an incredible year back in his homeland, stacking up a Top 5 ARIA single and album, a four time platinum single for ‘Boys Like You,' double platinum status for his album ‘Falling & Flying’ and the singles ‘Child’ and ‘Run Alone’. 360 has been awarded Gold status for singles ‘Just Got Started', ‘Killer’ and ‘Throw It Away’ and two ARIA Awards for Breakthrough Artist and Best Producer.360 performs at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, March 12 at Holy Mountain for a SXSW showcase presented by Big Day Out. On Wednesday, March 13, 360 will perform at Meduse Lounge at 1 a.m. for a SXSW showcase. 360 will rap on Thursday, March 14 from 9:15 p.m. to 9:45 p.m. at Emo's Jr for a showcase presented by The Agency Group. He also will be playing on Saturday, March 16 from 1:00 a.m. to 1:40 a.m. at Maggie Mae's Rooftop for the Aussie BBQ presented by Sounds Australia.
  • 5) Act Rights: For the past two years, Austin band the Act Rights have ardently created passionate and hectic rock and roll. The quartet grit their teeth and pull you into their world while they perform. If you leave empowered, scared, joyful, angry or wasted then they did their job right. Their new album 'Sweat Equity', produced by Andrew Scheps, captures the group's artistic prowess and no-holds-barred approach to music.On Tuesday, March 12, Act Rights will perform in a showcase at The Jr., located at 603 Red River Street at 1 a.m. The next day Wednesday, March 13 Act Rights play at the Texas Rock and Roll Massacre at the 29th Street Ballroom, located at 2906 Fruth St at 6 p.m. On Thursday, March 14, Act Rights will play at Captiva Records and KTSW Showcase at The Rooftop on 6th at 2 p.m. At 6 p.m. on March 14 Act Rights perform at the Crawfish Boogaloo at Strength World, at 2302 Willow St.
