Technology has certainly come a long way since the 80's when certain crappy movies were made to seem better than they were thanks to them being in 3D. But then those same movies were put on videotape and DVD, and they looked horrendously bad in a lot of cases. Granted, you can find a lot of 3D movies on Blu-ray these days, but that wasn’t the case for a long time. But 3D is now back big time, something we didn’t expect to see reemerge from the ashes of the 80’s. In many ways, 3D was a gimmick that was overexploited to where it lost is allure and was seemingly banished to cinematic extinction.
Thanks to certain movies, it is all the rage again, but now we wonder if it’s worth the extra few bucks we spend on movie tickets. Are you really getting your money's worth when you spend a little more for a 3D movie? Not if you talk to those who are bitching and moaning about the "horrible" use of it in the “Clash of the Titans” or “The Last Airbender.”
For this list, the movies I have selected may not necessarily be great ones, but they are great examples of 3D filmmaking used to its maximum advantage. They still may look good in the regular 2D format, but filmmakers added that extra dimension to great effect and you will be very fortunate if you get to see them on the big screen.
