Childcare teachers/caregivers and teachers in early elementary will acknowledge Fire Prevention Week during the week of October 6-12 this year. Lesson plans and activities will teach children about fire safety at home and at school, and your child will most likely come home with the "Stop, Drop, and Roll" song and will want to show you the steps of this fire safety tool to use if their clothes are on fire. Parents will want to share information about their family's plan of escape if their home is on fire, and be very specific about a family meeting place after leaving the house.
Sarasota County Fire Department will host a Fire Prevention Week Open House on October 5 from 10:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m.. The open house is free. This year's fire safety campaign will center around fire safety in the kitchen. The Open House will be held at Station # 5 at 400 N. Beneva Road in Sarasota. If you would like to bring your children to the open house, please call 941-861-5000 for more information. You may also log on at www.Fpw.org for information about Fire Prevention Week.
It can be a fact-filled reading activity about firefighters and their job with the selected children's books in the List. Check out the List Photos for suggestions for fun and educational read-alouds for Fire Prevention Week.
