James confirmed to “Fifty Shades of Grey” fans that her bestselling erotic novel would be adapted to the silver screen, excitement for the “Fifty Shades of Grey” movie has taken the reading world by storm. With that announcement, fan casting for the sexy male lead, Christian Grey, also began. With the IB Times reporting this Thursday, Jan. 31, that Matt Bomer recently spoke out on rumors involving him starring in “50 Shades” to Wet Paint revealing yesterday that Ian Somerhalder and Henry Cavill have topped the latest casting polls, competition for the role of Christian Grey has reached dizzying heights.

E.L. James and the “Fifty Shades of Grey” movie team has made it quite clear this 2013 that casting for Christian Grey (and Anastasia Steele, for that matter) is still some time off, as production cannot even begin until a director for the film has been found and a script by Kelly Marcel is completed. Of course, even then, finding the right Christian Grey may prove even more difficult of a challenge.

Although several great actors have mentioned — among other fan favorites, listed in the new list included — finding that perfect blend of dominant sexuality, inner complexity, dark past, and of course handsome features is no easy task. From Christian’s grey eyes to his copper hair, finding a star who can act and look the part will ultimately fall to the consideration of the more than capable E.L. James and film team, particularly producers Dana Brunetti and Michael De Luca.
