All eyes may be on the nearly tied up race for the Professional Bull Riders (PBR) World Championship for the riders but an equally exciting match is forthcoming in the chase for the title of World Champion Bull. On the eve of the PBR's Built Ford Tough World Finals, the contenders on the bovine side have been announced; all regular season scores and stats are erased and two rounds -- two scores -- will determine who wins the 2013 title. The BFT World Finals begins Wednesday, October 23 and concludes October 27 and is held in Las Vegas, Nevada at the Thomas & Mack.
Odds makers figure 2013 to be the rubber match between the last two champions, 2012 World Champion Bull Asteroid and 2011 World Champion Bull Bushwacker. Both bulls have been very good this season with Bushwacker coming out with the higher scores for most of his outs during regular season events. Of 34 Pabst Blue Ribbon Awards given to the high marked bulls at each event during the season, Bushwacker claimed ten, winning nearly every time he bucked.
The contenders are chosen based upon season scores from the judges at PBR Built Ford Tough events with two choices reserved for the PBR's Director of Livestock Cody Lambert. Should Lambert use both picks, as he has in 2013, the field of contenders runs to seven bulls.
Each contender will buck during one preliminary round and the Championship Round. The scores from each out will be added together with the highest markings determining the World Champ. The stock contractor who owns the World Champion Bull receives a $50,000 bonus.
The PBR World Finals begins Wednesday night, October 23 and will air live on CBS SportsNetwork and RuralRadio each night through the conclusion on Sunday afternoon, October 27.
