During the month of February, there will be many articles related to the heart. Some will be about relationships, food choices, and still others about the physical wellness of the heart organ. Maintaining a healthy heart takes more than just following a good diet. Below I have listed the four most import steps you can take each day to assure your heart stays healthy.
Maintain Healthy relationships - Being part of a healthy loving relationship can boost the immune system. Isolation increases depression, especially during the winter months. Find new friends or reconnect with old. Don't engage with people who bring you down; keep those relationships limited to when you have to. Seek like minded individuals who make you laugh and help you feel better about yourself. Take the time to nurture long term relationships which over time can feel boring or stale.
Take time for yourself - Be good to you! Take time out of every day to nurture your soul whether it is saying a silent prayer, reading a book, or going to a spa to be pampered. Each day is a gift, what you do with it is up to you.
Eat healthy - Eat more veges, fruits, whole grains, and fish. Eat less red meat, sugar, and white flour. Staying away from processed foods and eating a more whole foods diet will aid in the digestion of food
Get Active - Physical activity goes a long way towards maintaining a healthy heart. Not only will you lose weight, but the increased movement will help you feel better by increasing your levels of dopamine in your brain. In addition, staying actives helps to reduce blood pressure, increases HDL (the good cholesterol) and helps control blood sugar.
