February events begin this weekend with the Humane Society of Greater Dayton

From Valentine’s Day to World Spay Day, the Humane Society of Greater Dayton has several events coming up this month which are fun for you and will benefit the homeless pets at the shelter.

Pet photos at 2nd Street Market this Saturday: on Feb 9, 2013, visit the Friends of the Humane Society at the east end of the Market between 10 a.m. and 1 p.m and have your photo taken with your furry (or feathered, or scaly) Valentine. Professional photographer Sharon Meredith will be taking pet photos for $10; you will get a 4x6 photo and all proceeds benefit the Friends of the Humane Society.

Show your love: buy a Valentine for any of the adoptable dogs at the shelter for $5 (small Valentines for bunnies or cats are only $1 each!) and it will be displayed on their cage. All the money raised will go directly to help care for the animals. To donate, visit the Humane Society at 1661 Nicholas Road in Dayton during regular business hours, choose from the assortment of Valentines and show some love for the homeless animals.

Show your own pets how much you care: join the Humane Society for World Spay Day on February 26, 2013. World Spay Day is an international event which promotes the importance of spaying or neutering your pet. The Humane Society of Greater Dayton is working with nearly 20 local vets to spay and neuter animals at a low cost. Vouchers are on sale Feb 12 through Feb 26, 2013 and can be bought at the Humane Society of Greater Dayton, the Meowza Cat Boutique inside the Dayton Mall (near Sears) or online at www.hsdayton.org. Call (937) 268-PETS (7387) for more information.

Microchipping for two: throughout the month of February, you can get 2 animals micro-chipped for just $15. Help ensure that your pets never get lost by having them micro-chipped now. No appointments are needed. If your animals are already micro-chipped you can donate and have two of the homeless pets at the Humane Society micro-chipped instead!

Find the love of your life: are you looking for a special someone who will love you unconditionally and never leave you? There are dozens of them at the Humane Society of Greater Dayton on Nicholas Road: dogs, cats fuzzy bunnies, and frequently guinea pigs, rats, mice, the occasional iguana – you never know what might be up for adoption at the Humane Society. In February, the Humane Society will take $10 off of each adoption fee, and – get this - with each adoption you make during the month of February, your name will be entered into a drawing for a Date Night gift basket! The winner will be announced on March 6, 2013.

Join forces with the Humane Society of Greater Dayton this month and share the love with your own - or an as-yet-homeless - pet.
