The 33rd Annual Brielle Day 10k was held on Saturday, September 7, 2013 in Brielle, N.J.
The saying is, “It never rains on Brielle Day” and that was certainly true on this day. With a crystal clear day and a bit of all temperatures in the 60’s at the start it made for some terrific conditions for the challenging 10K.
Runners lined up for the 9 a.m. start on Union Landing in front of the Brielle School. A stirring rendition of the National Anthem was sung by Delaney Burke of Brielle. Phil Hinck of Monmouth Beach and the Jersey Shore Running Club then gave the runners last minute instructions and the commands to start the race.
About a quarter mile into the race the runners faced their first hill. From that point there were several more hills until the last mile or so with a long downhill and a sprint to the finish line in the park.
After the race awards were presented by Race Directors Jack and Diane Cheer of Wall, N.J. Many of the runners then headed over to the beer garden for some post-race celebrations of another great event.
