Fashion faux pas to avoid on spring break

Leave the Crocs at home!  They’re not attractive and are universally made fun of everywhere you can imagine.  So as tourist do you really want to stand out even more than you need to?  Also Crocs aren’t necessarily safe for your feet so if you want to prevent an accident, leave the Crocs at home and wear something more comfortable.  But not…Carrying an oversized backpack everywhere you go.  Do you really need to take that much stuff with you wherever you go?  Unless you’re traveling with a baby there’s no reason to carry a huge backpack.  The idea of a vacation is to relax not to give yourself a backache.  A fashionable tote is a great option for carrying your necessities as well as big enough for any souvenirs you may pick up along the way without looking like a turtle. For parents in the Evansville/Henderson area with school age children spring break is coming up at the end of this month. Many of those will decide to go on vacation somewhere to visit family or to a destination location. That means leaving behind the old’ suit and tie and dressing down and just relaxing. But just because you’re on vacation doesn’t mean you have to look like a tourist or overly dress down. Follow some of these fashion tips on your spring break to ensure you have a fun and safe in some instances vacation.

  • White athletic sneakers.  Only in America it is ok to wear sneakers just about everywhere.  If you’re traveling out of the country opt for more fashionable footwear.  Sneakers are made for working out or running, not eating out.  Fashionable footwear doesn’t mean…
  • Wearing sandals with socks.  Oh the horror!  Whoever thought this was a cool fashion statement needs to be stopped.  What is the point?  Either your feet are hot and you wear sandals to keep your feet cool or you wear socks to keep your feet warm which also would mean you would wear closed toe shoes.  This shouldn’t have to be explained!  And while we’re discussing fashion…
  • Leave the tracksuits at home.  Comfort is a necessity when you’re on vacation but a tracksuit is another thing that goes along with the white sneakers.  It’s meant for working out not visiting attractions.  You can get the same comfort from properly fitted pants and top.  If you’re worried about being cold, wear layers instead.
  • While you’re leaving things at home make sure the garish clothing and loud jewelry stay there too.  Not only will you stand out in a crowd and make you more susceptible to being a victim of a crime but wearing garish clothing can get you booted off public transportation.  Many airplanes now ensure that people are properly dressed before flying so wearing something that shows too much cleavage from the front and back (saggy pants) can get you booted off a plane.  Speaking of appropriate clothing…
  • Souvenir T-shirts and rival jerseys.  You never know where you’ll find a crazed fan from a hometown team so why risk it?  You may want to represent your hometown but at the cost of offending others who may take their sport fanatics to an extreme level?  As for the souvenir T-shirts…wear them when you get home.  No one in NY wears an “I Love NY” t-shirt in public so why should you?  If you want to be a target, it would easier to just paint a bull’s-eye on your back.  Play it safe and wear the souvenir tees when you get home.
