October is a great month to explore all things autumn. From the changing of leaves to visiting the farm for pumpkin picking. October is fantastic for exploring all the science related activities. It is such an exciting learning time for young children. Browse the web, and you will find numerous ideas for engaging your little ones in fall projects. This particular activity is great for math, science, fine motor (building small muscle strength), and language. Here's how.
What you will need for the activity: acorns, plastic bag, plastic water bottle
Math: Child can count acorns or place them in piles of big, medium, and small.
Science: Child can look at acorns through magnifying glasses. Crack open one to see what is inside. Figure out ways to crack it open.
Fine motor: Child has to work to see which acorn will fit inside bottle.
Language: During the activity, child is continuing to increase math and science language, as long as you are modeling it. Use descriptive language and your child will imitate you.
Creativity (optional)- Have your child paint the water bottle.
