Events Gus Johnson should announce, other than the World Cup

Just when you thought it couldn't get any better, add Johnson to the mix. Every new model, wearing whatever stunning outfit, would be the game winner.They’d need a separate both, sound proof and all, but it would work. Bubba Watson slicing the ball around a tree to within ten feet of the pin to win the tournament and Johnson would be going berserk. And that might just be the second round of the Nationwide Boise Open too. Johnson, as you can only imagine, would have a Caddyshack-esque call that you couldn’t help but relish every single stroke.  It’s one of the most delectable, quickly turning into one of the most disgusting, events that can make you want to take an antacid after just watching. These athletes compete, dunk, smush, slam, decapitate as many hot dogs as humanly possible and they win a title belt for the accomplishment. It’s as wholesome as it gets. So why not, while “Joey Jaws” is getting his mouth full, Gus Johnson could be giving the rest of us an ear full.View the list »

Only one man is current being groomed for the 2018 World Cup. Only one man has a signature way of saying, “haha”. And he is the one, and only Gus Johnson.

The enthusiastically famous play-by-play announcer will leave his vocal imprint upon the world’s game, there’s no doubt about that.

"This is not something that is temporary," Fox Sports President Eric Shanks said in an interview with Sports Illustrated Tuesday. “This is something we are serious about and something we will continue to work at. Based on the radio games and the practice games Gus has done, I think this is going to work."

Johnson has already begun to prep for the future futbol matches. He has recently called matches for the San Jose Earthquakes and will debut internationally on February 13th when Real Madrid takes on Manchester United in the Champions League Round of 16.

Soccer, a sometimes placid sport, won’t be hard for Johnson to make enthralling. His voice and energy on broadcasts, of any kind (of any kind?), bring to life the game despite what may be occurring. It’s a rare talent and it should be used across a multitude of platforms.

  •  The fastest two minutes in sports, and Johnson wouldn’t have time to take a breath. Thoroughbreds thundering and all the while you’d feel his voice nipping at their hooves, actually having the ability to move the race along. Around the backstretch they’d come, Johnson’s tone building and enraging. There’s a horse making its push to the outside, and his volume increasing to dangerous decibel levels. And down the homestretch they’d come, engulfed by the thrill. And it wouldn’t even matter who won. 
  •  It’s a shame that Johnson made the move over to Fox Sport, only because of the NCAA Tournament. He always ended up with the most dramatic of games, as if the players and coaches partaking in the contest knew he was courtside and a theatrical finish would live on as lore. It feels wrong that he has left, his absence is felt as we long for outrageous burst of enthusiasm. It may never feel like March without the madness of Johnson.
