Easy mud tub cake

Making a mud tub cake for your spring or summer party is so easy and does not take a lot of time. It is also so simple that children can be involved in helping with the decorations, and kids and kids-at-heart will be delighted over the cuteness!

Supplies needed:

  • Baked cake with chocolate frosting using mix or recipe of your choosing. (This creation used one box of cake mix divided and baked in three 9" inch round pans to make a three-layer cake. (And of course the icing has to be chocolate if you want it to look like mud! Another icing dyed blue could be substituted if you want to do a hot tub cake as a variation.) For this cake the cake itself was strawberry and party guests loved the chocolate-covered strawberry flavor as well as the look of it when it was cut.
  • Kit Kat bars. Buy enough extra for the temptation you will succumb to when "planking" the cake. (44 Kit Kat bars were used in this recipe of the .49 oz size.)
  • Ribbon.
  • Decorations.
